Highlights along the French Rhône include the city of Lyon with its rich history and cultural diversity, as well as the Camargue, a unique nature reserve with wild horses, flamingos and saline lagoons. The two ships A-ROSA LUNA and A-ROSA STELLA have been cruising the Rhône and Saône since 2005.
The Cruise Region Rhône
Whether culinary delights, culture, architecture, breathtaking landscapes or romantic castles – all of these aspects of France can be discovered on over 800 kilometres of the Rhône and over 400 kilometres of the Saône.
The departure port, Lyon, is located in the centre. The city is a real insider’s tip with its historic Old Town and is characterised by French savoir-vivre and magnificent buildings. It is home to the finest silk fabric factories, ornate Renaissance buildings and world-famous French gourmet cuisine.
From there, the itinerary continues north to towns such as Mâcon, which is situated in the heart of a wine-growing region, to the tranquil town of Tournus with its Church of St. Philibert and to Chalon-sur-Sâone, which is home to St. Vincent’s Cathedral.
In the south, the route passes Viviers, which enchants visitors with its medieval charm, and Avignon with its impressive Palais des Papes. Here, a city tour, which is already included in the cruise price, guides guests through the beauty of the city. Afterwards, the river leads guests to the former provincial capital of Arles and then directly to the Mediterranean at Port St. Louis.
The Camargue is nestled between the two arms of the Rhône. The river washes across the land on its way to the sea, turning it into an untamed marshland where flamingos, bulls and white Camargue horses are at home.
The Provence shines purple in summer when the lavender fields are in full bloom. The air is filled with the scent of wild herbs and cicadas sing their song. It is no wonder that this enchanted region inspired great painters such as van Gogh and Cézanne. The city of Marseille, the second biggest city in France, represents the centre of the region.
The Rhône cruises are complemented by an extensive excursion programme. In six different categories, guests can experience the destination with all their senses, go on an adventure tour, ride an e-bike along the river and savour fresh delicacies from the South of France directly in the region. Exclusive excursions offer a personalised experience and are tailored to the guests’ wishes. Additional family excursions in Lyon and Avignon will capture the hearts of children.

The Rhône Itineraries
In-depth study of France. The 14-night “Rhône Route Intensive” sailing combines nature, culture and city flair from Lyon via Chalon-sur-Saône, Mâcon and Viviers to Port St. Louis and back via Arles, Avignon and Vienne.
A real all-time favourite is the seven-night cruise “Rhône Route Classique”, which connects the wild and unspoilt Saône in the north with the southern cities of Avignon and Arles along the Rhône from April to October.
During the summer months, the seven-night “Rhône Route Méditerranée” itinerary takes guests along the Rhône to Port St. Louis on the Mediterranean. Here is the ideal starting point for excursions to Monaco or Nice, for a visit to the lively harbour city of Marseille or a beach getaway to the Côte d’Azur.
For all those who want to shortly escape from everyday life, there is the five-night “Rhône Route Rendez-vous” sailing in spring and autumn, which leads from Lyon south along the Rhône through the Provence and the Camargue.
As a special highlight, the seven-night “Rhône Culinary Highlights” cruise invites to sample French wines. This sailing is rounded off by dinner menus presented by Oliver Edelmann & team, as well as delicious tastings on board.
Parents and grandparents are welcome on-board A-ROSA with their children – who travel free of charge in deck 1 cabins when accompanied by a guardian.
